The Range Rover compact luxury SUV gets a battery upgrade, a quieter cabin, and new styling for 2024. Here’s what you should know. Following the small Evoque crossover, Range Rover’s compact Velar SUV debuted in 2018, slotting just below the mid-size Range Rover Sport. The Velar is a relatively late luxury arrival in the crowded small sport utility market, but its sleek looks, upscale cabin, and respectable power figures set it apart.
For 2024, the British model gets even cleaner looks, a redesigned interior with a much quieter cabin, and an improved plug-in hybrid system.
Exterior
The Velar has been updated with new super-slim headlights and daytime running lights that are more sophisticated for 2024. A sleek, new design refreshes the front grille, while the rear bumper undergoes a subtle transformation. Land Rover has also added two new exterior color options to the car: the shimmering Metallic Varesine Blue and the premium Metallic Zadar Grey.
Interior
The interior of the 2024 Velar now features Land Rover’s sophisticated 11.4-inch infotainment system with its “floating” curved glass display. The new touchscreen, which is similar to what we get in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, makes it easier to access 80% of its features with two touches of the home screen, improving the user experience.
Range Rover introduces four new leather color options: Cloud, Caraway, Raven Blue, and Deep Garnet. These colors are complemented by a variety of details, such as the gleaming Moonlight Chrome accents on the steering wheel, center console surrounds, and air vents. Buyers can also personalize their journeys with a sleek Technical Light Anodized or Dark Anodized Aluminum finish, or they can bask in the warm embrace of the Shadow Grey Ash wood veneer trim finishers.
Technology and Feature
The 2024 Velar is equipped with Land Rover’s most recent Pivi Pro software. They’ve designed it to be adaptable, with the ability to receive over-the-air updates, ensuring the drive remains at the cutting edge of innovation. The Pivi Pro setup also now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keeping devices charged and housed in a stylish new storage compartment in the center console.
Pivi Pro intends to improve even more with OTA updates to the powertrain, chassis, navigation mapping, and even onboard diagnostics.
The optional Meridian 3D Surround Sound System is in charge of audio duties. The premium sound system includes up to 17 speakers and a 750W amplifier power.
New design
The base P250 model arrives in America with a turbocharged 2.0L engine producing 247 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, paired with a standard all-wheel-drive system and a refined new eight-speed automatic transmission promising faster gear changes.
The P400 variant of the luxury compact 5-seater has more power. It comes with a powerful 3.0L inline-six engine that produces 395 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. The engine is powered by a concealed 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack hidden beneath the rear cargo floor, which works in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
A redesigned battery pack has increased the electric range of the 2024 Velar PHEV model. The system increases the range by 40 miles (64 kilometers).
