2023 China’s Tank 500 SUV – Great Wall Motor is a Chinese firm that does not have a presence in the United States, despite being one of the fastest-growing in the world. Through its Ora division, the company has expanded its portfolio to encompass anything from semi-premium crossovers to quirky yet cheeky micro EVs in a relatively short period of time. One of its more intriguing branches is the Tank brand, which features robust SUVs with a sense of luxury.
2023 China’s Tank 500 SUV Design
The most recent addition to this stable is Tank 500. We originally saw this as a flagship off-roader aimed against Toyota and Ford at the Chengdu Auto Show last year. As a sort of Chinese Toyota Sequoia, this exhilarating SUV is currently available in China. This is a car made for the Chinese people, but if the region’s manufacturers gain international recognition, this unusual choice may find its way into more competitive markets.

To provide a luxury cabin experience, the seats and trimmings have been covered in Nappa leather and fitted with a number of comfort options such as seat massage, heating, and ventilation for the front and rear benches. The inside experience is highlighted by the revolutionary 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, all of which are operated via a rotary dial just beneath the gear selector.
2023 China’s Tank 500 SUV Powertrain
All variations are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid motor in the nine-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain was developed entirely in-house by GWM, which is becoming increasingly rare as the automotive industry goes toward electrification. All models are said to have 349 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from zero to sixty miles per hour takes 7.3 seconds. The Tank 500 is equipped with a sophisticated 4×4 system with 11 driving mode options that allows it to respond to a variety of conditions. According to Tank CEO Liu Yanzhao, the company created an entirely new powertrain to compete with China’s “import monopoly” in the large SUV segment.
