All variations are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid motor in the nine-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain was developed entirely in-house by GWM, which is becoming increasingly rare as the automotive industry goes toward electrification. All models are said to have 349 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from zero to sixty miles per hour takes 7.3 seconds. The Tank 500 is equipped with a sophisticated 4×4 system with 11 driving mode options that allows it to respond to a variety of conditions. According to Tank CEO Liu Yanzhao, the company created an entirely new powertrain to compete with China’s “import monopoly” in the large SUV segment.
